How to Pop Your Popcorn
For one serving of approximately 2–3 cups of popped popcorn, use 1 tablespoon of canola oil and 2 tablespoons of popcorn kernels.
- Add the oil and 3–4 kernels to a medium saucepan. Cover and heat on high until those kernels pop. Use a larger pot for a larger batch.
- Add the remaining kernels, replace the lid, and swirl the pot to coat them in the hot oil.
- As the kernels begin popping, swirl again if needed. When popping becomes rapid, open the lid just slightly to release steam, keeping it mostly covered.
- When popping slows to a few seconds between pops, turn off the heat. Wait a few seconds for the last kernels to pop, then remove the lid and season.
